Feedback received following the night was all positive including a request to hold a further Milonga before the border reopens. We may not achieve this but hope to hold another before the flow of visitors reaches our events.
Tasmanian Club de Tango’s 2020 AGM was held on Friday, October 2 as previously announced. 15 members attended the AGM. The agenda for the AGM included the usual business items. The Presidents report offered by Interim President John Rallings outlined the ups and downs of what has been a very unusual year. The treasurer report showed that the clubs accounts remain healthy with a modest increase in funds over the 2019/20 financial year.
The office bearer and committee positions were all declared vacant and the election to these position took place. Only two pre-meeting nominations had been received for the positions of president and treasurer. Other nominations were taken from the floor. The end result is the 2020/21 committee comprises the following: John Rallings (President), Cat Walker (Treasurer), Michael Bonny, Carol Atkinson and Tomoko Chida.
The committee had its first meeting on Saturday, October 10. Among the items discussed and agreed was a nomination for Rosemary Abel to join the committee and an offer by Carol Atkinson to take the role of secretary.
Among other topics were the holding of further Milongas, the resumption of Tuesday evening activities and 2020/21 memberships. Further details of these will be published on this site soon.
The Tasmanian Club de Tango is holding its AGM at St Xavier’s Church Hall, South Hobart, at 7:00pm on Friday, October 2, 2020.
Both members and non-members are welcome to attend. However, to vote at the AGM, you need to be a financial member. For those who were financial members in FY2019/20 their membership has been extended to October 31 so that they can vote. If you were not a member in FY2019/20, but wish to join and vote at AGM, a $10 interim membership (until October 31) is available. This can be paid via EFT on the AGM night or via direct deposit (instruction below) prior to the AGM.
A milonga will follow the AGM. It will start at 8:15pm at the same venue. The admission to the milonga is $10. EFT payment is available at the venue.
The club has developed a plan that is compliant with the COVID safe regulations and guidelines. To ensure we stay safe while enjoying the milonga we ask that participants follow the directions and requirements we will be putting in place. To view the club’s COVID Safe Plan (click COVIDPlan).
There is a limit in the number of attendees. To register your attendance to the AGM and/or milonga, please, reply to SMS invitation (sent 25/09/20) saying “AGM Yes” and/or “Milonga Yes”. If you did not receive the SMS and wish to attend, please, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org saying “AGM Yes” and/or “Milonga Yes” with your name.
I hope you are all well and surviving these challenging and interesting times.
The committee has not decided when to restart our Tango activities as yet. Even when indoor gatherings are allowed, the 1.5 meter rule is expected to remain, meaning we cannot dance in pairs. One option may be to consider classes for solo drills if there is sufficient demand and would like to hear your view.
A couple of recent decisions the committee have made relate to the timing of the AGM and membership fees. The date of the AGM is yet to be set, but is planned to occur in September this year.
The committee has agreed to make a temporary arrangement for memberships between 01/07/2020 and 31/10/2020. This arrangement is to extend current financial memberships until 31/10/2020 with no new payment, and to offer current non-members new short-term memberships until 31/10/2020 for $10 payable in July-August. The membership will provide you with the voting rights at the AGM and eligibility for committee membership and office bearer positions for those who are interested.
The committee is planning to conduct a survey soon to obtain everyone’s input regarding the club’s future activities. We will let you know when the survey is ready.
Stay safe and stay tuned.
